Final Piece: Magazine Cover

This is my final piece. This is my magazine cover that i have created.

Final Piece: Work in progress

This is the image that i used for the background of my magazine cover, which i placed into Photoshop and resized the image.

Next i created the masthead, i chose a font off of Dafont.com and i chose the font Chapaza. Because i wanted the background image to overlap the masthead, i had to duplicate the image and then i used the pen tool to go around a section of the models head and i made a selection, which then on a separate layer, i put the selection and it overlapped the masthead. I had to get the paintbrush and chose the size 27 brush and the colour black to go around the edge of the section i copied to make it look neat and not look like it had been cut out.

This is what the masthead looked like after i finished overlapping the image over the masthead.

Next i put the cover lines on to the magazine cover, using the fonts Chapaza and Bebas Neue. I also varied the sizes of the text on the magazine cover, to make the type sizes complement each other and not conflict and not look boring.

I made the 'Exclusive' italic to make it protrude and to make the magazine more interesting and it gave the magazine cover more variation.

To add more depth to my magazine cover, i added a some colour to the magazine cover. Firstly i chose a blue but it was rather conflicting against the black and white background image. So, i changed the colour to a bright pink, this gave the magazine cover more interest, appeal and gave it more depth. The colour pink also made the magazine complementary.

The masthead was lacking something, so i made it more substantial by making it the size of it bigger. Also i decided to make the model more darker than the background of the image, to make the model stand out from the background. To do this i got the paintbrush and selected the colour black and i painted over the model and made it darker and i also changed the layers levels to do that.

I realigned the cover lines on the magazine to make it look more professional and neater. I also moved the cover lines around as well because i wanted the pink 'festive fashion styles' overlapping the image because it will protrude better over the top of the image.

I changed the font of the 'festive fashion styles' to American Purpose to make the text on the magazine cover more complementary. I changed the alignment of it to make it stand out more. Also, i changed the colour of the 'festive fashion styles' to a pink gradient because it makes the cover line more appealing and eye catching and to finish that cover line, on the words, i added a drop shadow, giving it more depth and interest. Also, i changed the colour of the masthead to white, to make it more complementary and the colour white protrudes better, than the colour black.

I changed the colours of the 'fashion' and the 'styles' and swapped their colours around to make it look more appealing.

Contact Sheet

The photos that i have crossed off on the contact sheet are the images that i didn't want to use on my magazine cover or double page spread. I felt like they didn't really fit in with what i wanted my magazine cover to look like. Also, some of the photos are blurred, so i didn't want to use that image. The two circled images on the contact sheet are the images that i liked and i might use on my piece. I liked them because they are what i want my piece to look like and they link in well.

I crossed these images off because i didn't want to use them on my final piece and they don't have a close up of the face which is what i want my background image to look like.

The images that i have circled are the ones that i may use on my final piece, i felt like they fit well with what i want my cover to look like. The ones that i have crossed off are ones that i might won't use on my magazine cover because i feel like they don't fit the design i want to make. The images that i have crossed off also, don't really fit the theme of the type of magazine that i want to create.
The circled images are ones that i might use on my magazine cover because i liked the close up of the models face and it will go well with my design that i want to make. the images that i have crossed off, i feel that, again they don't really go with the type of magazine design that i want to create.

The images that i have crossed off i don't want to use and i find that they don't fit in with my drafting but the ones that i have circled are the images that i want to use and like because they are the type of images that i want my cover to look like. Also, some of the crossed off images are blurred and don't have a close up of the models face, which is what i was looking for, i also wanted a black and white photo for my magazine front cover.

Double Page Spread Scamps

These are the scamps that i have drawn. I drew these scamps from researching double page spreads on Pinterest.

Spray Paint Magazine Cover

I used the spray paint portrait for the background image of my magazine cover.
To make masthead look like it has been spray painted, i had to create a brush, which i did from selecting the spray texture off the background image and then i had to change the shape dynamic, texture and angle to make the brush. Once i had made the brush i went over the masthead to make it look like it has been sprayed.

Once i finished the masthead, i added cover lines onto the magazine and i aligned the cover lines to make the magazine cover look neater.
I put some more text on the magazine cover and used the brush i created to make it look like it had been sprayed.

I changed the colour of some of the text to blue, because it is a complementary colour to the pink of the background image.

i resized and realigned some of the cover lines on the magazine cover to make the magazine cover look more professional.

This is my final finished spray painted magazine cover.

Spray Paint Portrait

This is the image that I found after researching on Pinterest, that I wanted to do much spray paint portrait with.

Firstly I took the image into Photoshop and I had to change the images settings so that I could see the different shades within the image. I firstly selected the darkest shade within the photo and I filled it in with black on a new layer.

Next I selected the second shade within the image and I also on a new layer filled it in with the colour black.

Finally, I selected the final shade on the image and this was the lightest shade of the 3 shades and I also filled this in with black.
Once I had filled the layers in with black I printed them out separately and I cut out the black parts of the image. When I had finally finished cutting the black parts of the image out, I spray the stencils which I had created to make the three different sprayed prints.

Once I had spray painted the stencils and had the sprayed prints, I scanned them into Photoshop and changed the threshold of each of the spray prints and changed the colour of them. The bottom layer, I filled with a light shade of pink.

The next layer I filled with a darker shade of pink to go on top of the bottom layer.

Then for the layer that was to go on top of them both, I filled that with a darker shade of pink than the others and I arranged them so that they looked like the image I used to for the spray paint.

This is the final spray paint portrait that I created using spray stencils that I created and Photoshop.
